Editorial policy

This page explains, in specific terms, how we decide what to cover and what we say about it.

What we cover

We focus on home gym equipment for beginners and people with limited space. We add a new category only once we can commit to researching it against the same criteria as everything else on the site — we'd rather cover fewer categories well than publish thin pages across many.

Evaluation criteria

Every product and buying guide is assessed against the following, in roughly this order of weight for a beginner audience:

Build quality

Materials, construction methods, and how the product tends to hold up over time based on manufacturer specs and verified owner feedback.

Adjustability

For adjustable equipment, how quickly and reliably weight or resistance can be changed, and how intuitive the mechanism is.

Usability

How straightforward the product is to set up and use correctly, particularly for someone with no gym experience.

Space requirements

Real footprint during use and storage, not just the boxed dimensions.

Beginner friendliness

Whether the learning curve and injury risk are appropriate for someone just starting out.

Value

Price relative to comparable options in the same category, not price in isolation.

Warranty

What's actually covered, for how long, and how straightforward the claims process is where that information is published.

Maintenance

What upkeep the product needs, and how accessible replacement parts are.

Versatility

How many different exercises or use cases the product realistically supports.

"Reviewed by us" vs. research-based recommendations

Some products on this site have been physically tested by a member of our team — these are marked as reviewed and describe direct, hands-on experience. Everything else is a research-based recommendation, built from manufacturer specifications, published measurements, and verified pricing rather than in-person testing. We do not claim to have personally tested a product unless that testing actually happened, and we say explicitly which applies on every review and product page.

How affiliate revenue is kept separate from recommendations

We earn commission through the Amazon Associates program (see our affiliate disclosure) on some but not all of the products we cover. Commission eligibility or rate never determines which products we recommend, how we rank them, or what we say about their drawbacks. When a product performs poorly against our criteria, we say so.

Updates and corrections

Product pages display a "last checked" date reflecting when pricing, availability, and specifications were last verified. Articles display a "last updated" date. If you spot outdated or incorrect information, please let us know — we correct errors as soon as we can confirm them.
